The loft for expats in Gran Canaria is located in the Vegueta district, the birthplace of what is now Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. After more than five hundred years, this district of the city is still the most important area of the city’s historical heritage. This district is prospering, with plenty of things to do, like go to the theatre, attend musical events, and try great food. Vegueta is the place where you will find the oldest buildings in town, and where you can easily spend a couple of hours of sightseeing. Many of the streets have been closed to traffic.

It is worth walking down the cobblestone streets and sees the wooden balconies of many of the buildings. Another interesting thing to see is the large patios off the buildings, full of plants, kept just like they used to be, hundreds of years ago.

Just 500 m away is Calle Triana, a busy shopping street with lots of bars, restaurants, and theatres. Las Canteras Beach is 5 km away. The Central Bus Station is a 10 minutes’ walk, and there is a big supermarket within 500 meters.

Las Palmas is a great location for anybody who is coming to live long or short term in Spain. Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria island.  Las Palmas is in the northern part of Gran Canaria. It is just a stone throw away from the Moroccan coast in the Atlantic Ocean. The warm moderate temperature is, according to Thomas Whitmore from Syracuse University, “the best climate in the world”. 

Las Palmas is a major cruise port and the city is known for duty-free shopping and its sandy beaches. The coral barrier at Playa de Las Canteras is great for divers, snorkelers, or swimmers. The annual Las Palmas de Gran Canaria carnival brings together flamboyantly costumed performers, music, and dancing.
