Also because the high-speed WiFi is excellent, which gives you the opportunity to work from home. Depending on the season, switch the air conditioning or heating on, choose between the dining table, coffee table, sofa, or lounge chairs to make yourself comfortable, and open your laptop. Your day at the office has begun.
The “dry village” (English for Poble Sec) lies between the foot of the city hill Montjuïc and the Avinguda del Paral·lel. This working-class area was the first to be built during the expansion of the city, after the city walls had been demolished in the middle of the 19th century. Remarkably, this site was not part of the plan of city planner Cerdà, who was responsible for the construction of the Eixample district.
Because the construction took too long, they started the construction of small workers’ houses. So it became Poble-Sec, which is named after the fact that the district did not have a water source until the late 19th century, when a fountain was installed. If you want to know about the fountain, meet up with fellow expats in Barcelona on our Facebook page to discover the history behind it together.
Despite its central location, you will find few tourists or major tourist attractions here, but all the more cozy bars, boutiques and restaurants. A must for the advanced Barcelona goer! The most famous street in the neighborhood – and enough reason for many people to come to Poble-Sec – is Carrer Blai. Here you will find bar after bar with the tastiest montaditos and pintxos on the counter.
