The “dry village” (English for Poble Sec) lies between the foot of the city hill Montjuïc and the Avinguda del Paral·lel. This working-class area was the first to be built during the expansion of the city, after the city walls had been demolished in the middle of the 19th century. Remarkably, this site was not part of the plan of city planner Cerdà, who was responsible for the construction of the Eixample district.

Because the construction took too long, they started the construction of small workers’ houses. So it became Poble-Sec, which is named after the fact that the district did not have a water source until the late 19th century, when a fountain was installed.
