Description

Carpe Diem is a houseboat loft for expats in Ghent. It concerns a unique 3 bedroom lodging opportunity. The ship is moored in the old docklands of the medieval city of Ghent and has been transformed into an exceptional, eco-friendly home with two completely separated residences. This division makes the boat ideal accommodation for two expats or workers in Ghent that live on different schedules. Because of the layout of the boat, the rental would be a two-for-one. An ideal solution for the relocation manager or friendly expats that need to move to the beautiful city of Ghent.

The first area is the ship’s deckhouse (Dutch: “roef”). It has been completely renovated into a comfortable, modern studio of 30 square meters with all amenities one should need. The deckhouse has a convenient living/bed quarters, kitchen. The separate bathroom with toilet and shower gives you great privacy when you would accommodate the residence as a couple. The quarters also have a washing machine and a tumble dryer. This unique separate quarter offers the expat that travels with older children an opportunity to give them their own space. This beautifully transformed studio is fully furnished – ready to move in!

The second apartment is the ship’s cargo hold (Dutch: “ruim”). It has been transformed into a contemporary, loft-like residence of 65 square meters, with all modern comfort. If being on the water is not enough, this loft comes with a heated outdoor pool with a jet stream. Ideal for the avid swimmer or if you just want to keep in shape. The cargo hold has two bedrooms, each with a double bed so it accommodates 4 people easily and comfortably. The cargo hold has a very modern design throughout. You enter the accommodation in an incredibly open kitchen, including a dining area with 4 chairs. You descent into the living room that gives you a feeling that you are in a normal house. The bedrooms are located behind the living room.

The loft is fully furnished – ready to move in! Weekly cleaning is included in these residences. This is a unique loft for expats in Ghent who appreciate eco-friendly living. We, at Globexs, are honoured to offer this houseboat in Ghent to the expat community.

Port of Ghent

There is no better way to experience expat life then working in the port and living on a houseboat in Ghent on the canal.

The port of Ghent is the second busiest seaport in Belgium. The first port of Ghent was situated at the Scheldt river and later at the river Leie. Since the Middle Ages, Ghent has sought a connection to the sea. The port of Ghent is accessible by ships of the Panamax size, and in February 2015 the construction of a new lock at Terneuzen was announced, which will maintain near-parity with those of the Panama Canal expansion project.
