The neighborhood is located in the southern area of Bilbao. Amézola, or in Basque Ametzola, is a neighborhood in the 7th district of Bilbao located on the left bank of the Bilbao estuary. It is dedicated to the great Bilbao industrialist Don José de Amézola y Aspizúa, founder of the Banco de Bilbao and member of its board of directors until his death in 1922. Don José de Amézola was, together with Don Francisco Villota, the first Spanish Olympic medalist, gold medalist in Pelota Vasca (Paris, 1900).
