In our previous article about neighbourhoods in Valencia we talked about the Ciutat Vella and L’Eixample. In this article we will discuss the area Quatre Carreres and Cabañal. These are both popular districts among Spaniards as well as foreigners. This neighborhood guide was last updated in September 2025 to reflect current transportation improvements, rental market trends, and new amenities for international residents and digital nomads.
Quatre Carreres
Quatre Carreres is located south of L’Eixample and is one of Valencia’s largest districts. It comprises seven neighbourhoods! Monteolivete, En Corts, Na Rovella, La Punta, Ciutat de les arts and Fonteta de Sant Lluís.
This was an area for agriculture until the 19th century. Today, some of the territory is still farmland. The modernisation of this area has taken off in the past few years. For example, they built a big hospital called La Fe, a shopping centre called El Saler and of course, the Ciutat de les Art i les Ciencies, one of the biggest tourist attractions of Valencia.
Other not to be missed attractions are l’Oceanografic, l’Hemisferic and the IMAX projection cinema.
In the neighbourhood Monteolivete you will find the famous Fallero museum. Monteolivete is super close to Turia park, which is a big advantage.
The good thing about the Quatre Carreres district is that it is super close to the centre. A 5 minute walk will take you to Ruzafa and the Gran Vía Area and a 20 minute walk will take you to the old historical centre.
En corts is actually an extension of the Ruzafa neighbourhood. The difference is that En Corts is a residential area, where lots of families and locals live. Close to this area you will find lots of schools as well, which makes the neighbourhood family-friendly.
Updated September 2025: Quatre Carreres has seen significant infrastructure improvements with new dedicated bike lanes connecting directly to Valencia's city center and enhanced metro service frequency on Lines 1 and 3. The district now hosts several new coworking spaces catering to digital nomads, particularly around the Ciutat de les Arts area. Rental prices remain 20-25% more affordable than central Valencia while offering excellent connectivity. The new Valencia South business hub near La Fe hospital has attracted international companies, making this area increasingly popular with expat professionals.
Cabañal
One of the most charming areas of the city is definitely Cabañal. It is an old fisherman neighbourhood. It is located by the beach and will remind you of the good old days.
Cabañal is all about the houses. Most houses here were old fishermen huts and are declared Site of Cultural Interest. The houses give a range of colours on the streets as the tiles of the facades are very colourful. The street plans here are almost maze-like which creates a very authentic social atmosphere and way of life.
The last few years, Cabañal is experiencing revitalization as lots of shops and restaurants have opened their doors here. The district now has a network of art groups and theatre companies.
The cuisine here cannot be missed as there has arrived a new wave of chefs, specialised in seafood.
In one day you can indulge yourself in the history of the Valencia fishermen and relax on the beach. The beach is great for sporting activities as well as sunbathing and swimming in summer.
Cabañal is not really touristic yet but with the current development it has all ingredients to become the next hotspot of Valencia. Overall it is a safe neighbourhood, although at night you should be alert in some streets. As in every district, there are streets to avoid when it is dark. The Valencia City Council has invested in improved lighting and street renovations while preserving the neighborhood's historic character.
