B

Bleisure

The term bleisure refers to the practice of combining business travel and leisure travel into one trip (the words “business” + “leisure”). According to many (young) professionals this new concept inspired by digital nomads could replace traditional business trips.

C

Coliving

Coliving is a modern form of shared housing whereby young professionals move in with like-minded people to create an inspiring community. In a fully furnished house or apartment, every individual has his or hers private bedroom, but there are specially-designed common spaces (kitchen, living room, terraces, pool, gym, etc.) that create an inspiring environment for the residents to interact and share experiences. In the Globexs blog we have previously discussed and defined the concept of coliving for digital nomads. Also read “mobile coliving“.

Covid paradox

The Covid pandemia has been challenging Global Mobility for a while now, but still new opportunities arise.

Covid paradox 1

Nowadays, more and more employers are allowing their workers to work remotely. Many companies and people are currently witnessing the value of working remotely. Even the most conventional companies are realizing how much money the can save on physical office spaces. According to Calum Chace in Forbes, one of the 10 lasting impacts of Corona is that in the future there will be much more digital nomads. What a paradox! In times where global mobility is being challenged as never before, it is in fact becoming easier to adopt a nomadic lifestyle with a perfect work/life balance.

Covid paradox 2

On the one hand the pandemic has made the digital nomad / teleworking lifestyle more accessible for many professionals, but on the other hand, many “traditional” expats on a foreign assignment (with an expensive expat package) are wishing to return home.

D

Digital immigrant

Digital nomads are sometimes called digital immigrants. This however is confusing because digital nomads ofter never stay for more than 3 months on the same location…..

Digital nomad

Digital nomads are people who are location-independent and use technology to perform their job. All they need is their laptop and a good internet connection. This way they conduct their life in a nomadic way. Also read “keyboard warrior“, and “digital immigrant“.

E

Expat (expatriate)

An expat is someone who works abroad, in another country than where he or she is a national. They often live and work there temporarily and for work purposes. However, through the years, the term Expat, has become a lot wider. Nowadays not all expats only work abroad. Retirees who choose to live outside their native country are sometimes also considered expats instead of immigrants.

Expat rentals

Expat rentals is a rental concept designed for expats. It usually concerns fully furnished apartments or houses that are rented with flexible contracts and all expenses included. Expat rentals are more profitable for the owner than traditional rentals if they are managed by a reputed agency.

G

Global mobility

The term global mobility refers to an HR function and the ability of multinationals to move its people abroad for work purposes. It is the act of connecting the world. Companies are expanding their operations outside their own country in order to tap the international market.

K

A keyboard warrior is and s sounds like just a cool word for digital nomad, but it has a less pleasant background. Keyboard warriors are people who act though on the internet and like to have arguments online. However, in real life they don’t act the same way due to shyness or introvertion.

Knowmad

A knowmad is a nomadic knowledge worker: a creative, imaginative, and innovative person who can work with almost anybody, anytime, and anywhere. They are often referred to as the professionals of the future. They have the ability to switch from job to job as a need for change.

L

Lomad

Lomads are people that have the option to work across different locations around a city or region without a fixed office. Much like a traveler, they book space as needed when, where, and how they need to work that day or week. It are local nomads.

M

Mobile coliving

As if the concept of coliving was not revolutionary enough, some digital nomads and organizations even go one step further. Instead of coliving in one physical place they travel the world together. The group spends around 1 month is each place and everything is taken care of: Accommodation in private bedrooms, common areas, activities, workshops, coworking spaces, travel arrangements, etc.

R

Relocation services

Relocation services refers to all the services that a company provides to other companies, moving their staff abroad. Often reffered to as a “relocation package”, is a package of services that you can get to smoothen the moving process. Globexs offers all kinds of relocation services. Check it out here.
