If you are not moving around by car, you have easy access to the terminus of bus and tram which can bring you to the city center of Antwerp within 15 minutes.  Schoten is located in the middle of a green lung and you can find ample parks around such as Peerdsbos, Fort van Merksem, Den Horst, Brasschaat park etc. These places are great for and most of them also offer a restaurant in the middle of the park.
